And Carlos certainly ended up impressing the corrections officer for managing to add a bonus charge of reckless zamboni driving to his repertoire, which was all but unheard of. Impressively stupid, yes, but he admired the guts for it. Kendall had to admit, it was actually quite impressive for him at the time. When grilled about his defence, the middle child of the Garcia family simply shrugged, grinned, and said he was “totally bored” and “wanted to impress someone cool”. Case in point, the infamous summer of ‘03, which will go down in both Duluth’s history as one of the worst Midwestern heatwaves to date and in Carlos’s outstanding juvie records for several counts of trespassing, mischief and vandalism, and (‘accidental’) indecent exposure after he unsuccessfully attempted to melt their local ice rink into a homemade swimming pool. Carlos has been his best friend practically their entire lives, and Kendall knows that the torturous heat of the summer drives the boy antsy and practically impossible to settle down until he’s committed at least three separate acts of insanity to mollify his overwound self. It’s an impishly scheming look, and it’s the farthest thing away from anything new. (See the end of the work for more notes.) nevertheless, happy reading and not-so-happy tidings from this hellish tropical country and enjoy.
